One of the main reasons the group was started back in 2007 was because we, as parents, realised how important it was to have other people to share your experiences with. We aim to provide opportunities for parents, carers, sibling & extended family networks to have fun in a fully inclusive environment where the child with DS is one of many rather than one of a few. Research has shown providing this type of social environment improves children’s self esteem.
CDSSG run several monthly Early Years Drop In session run at various locations around the county. Here our parents/carers of younger children get to spend time together in stimulating environments & share their experiences. The sessions conclude with a singing/signing session of the childrens favourite nursery rhymes.
CDSSG organise several family events through the year. Some are held in a local village hall & are based around an activity followed by a snack, for other we arrange visits to suitable local attractions. All events provide a great opportunity for families to have fun together within a supportive environment.
As a group we also organise a couple of social evenings, each year, for parents/carers only. These gatherings provide an opportunity for people to build friendships without interruptions!
Recently the group have started a football session in partnership with DSActive, Egerton Football Club & Cheshire FA. These weekly sessions are open to all participants of any age with DS. Why not pop along & have ago!
